The 2011 Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award is awarded to Julian Skrotzki for the poster/PICO entitled:

The Accommodation Coefficient of Water Molecules on Ice and its Role for Cirrus Clouds (Skrotzki, J.; Connolly, P.; Niemand, M.; Saathoff, H.; Möhler, O.; Ebert, V.; Leisner, T.)

Julian Skrotzki is currently finishing his PhD at the Institute for Meteorology and Climate Research, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. One part of his research focuses on water vapor measurements by means of tunable diode laser hygrometers. The other part concentrates on the observation of ice crystal growth in cirrus clouds at the cloud simulation chamber AIDA. His poster summarizes results of AIDA experiments which suggest that the incorporation of water molecules on the surface of an ice crystal – described by the so called accommodation coefficient – is not impeded to such an extent that it has significant impact on the ice growth in cirrus clouds.
