Job description

An Assistant Professor position is planned to be available in Boğaziçi University, Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute Department of Geophysics, Istanbul Turkey. The position involves the study of the plate boundary behaviour of the Anatolia-Aegean plate as well as the intraplate deformation, combining numerical model simulations with geological, geodetic and geophysical observations. Current research topics include the role of plate segmentation in the eastern Mediterranean; Structure, composition, and thermal state of the crust and mantle of the Anatolian plate; Kinematics of the Anatolia plate boundary zone.
Ideal candidates will have strong backgrounds in applied mathematics, especially numerical solutions of continuum mechanics problems. Furthermore, knowledge of the tectonic evolution of the eastern Mediterranean is necessary. The candidates must have experience handling geodetic, seismological and (structural) geological data.

How to apply

Applicants should send a brief research statement and CV to prof. Hayrullah Karabulut (kara@boun.edu.tr), Chair of Geophysics Department at Boğaziçi University, Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute.
