The Center for Integrative Planetary Science (CIPS) at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research position in any area of planetary science. Current senior members of CIPS include Gibor Basri, Steven Beckwith, Bruce Buffett, Eugene Chiang, Imke de Pater, William Dietrich, Courtney Dressing, Raymond Jeanloz, Harriet Lau, Jere Lipps, Paul Kalas, Michael Manga, Philip Marcus, Burkhard Militzer, Daniel Stolper, Andrew Westphal. Successful candidates will have overlapping research interests with these faculty members.
The candidate is expected to conduct research in any area of planetary science, present the findings at research seminars and conferences, and publish the results in the peer-reviewed scientific literature. It is furthermore assumed that the candidate becomes an active member of Center for Integrative Planetary Science (CIPS), helps organize the weekly CIPS seminars, enriches the scientific discourse, hosts speakers, and engages in outreach activities.
Current research areas span astronomical observations of the solar system, Martian geodynamics, giant planets, planetary and satellite interiors and atmospheres, planet formation theory, protoplanetary disks, and extrasolar planets. Special attention will be paid to candidates with broad interests and expertise who can bridge Berkeley’s Earth and Planetary Science Department and Astronomy Department.
